Hello from the UK! Any other Kahrun players out there?

Hello there! After listening to four or so episodes of the podcast (love it), I finally had to come check out these famous forums. I've been looking for some discussion which isn't relentless arguing about WoW... Aion is my very first MMO, so I couldn't give a flying hoot about whether or not it's like other MMOs! All the other MMOs have something that puts me off (art style, gameplay, or world), but I was finally tempted in by Aion's combination of lovely art direction, both PvP and PvE, and - of course - tremendously studly well-groomed men with luscious wings. Well, at least in the characters. Don't know how many actual players answer to that description. ;-)

Anyway, I'm playing on the Kahrun server as Quilian, a level 20 gladiator, and I'm really enjoying it so far. Though it's been a bit of a steep learning curve sometimes - guys, it took me twelve days to work out how to use the chat window. I could see stuff but there was no input box to type in! I was struck dumb! This culminated in a mortifying incident where a passing friendly cleric healed me, and I was only able to thank her through the medium of interpretive dance... (I _had_ found the emotes tab, you see)

(if you'd like to laugh at my awesome noobishness, I've been blogging about it over at http://helen-keeble.livejournal.com - look for the 'adventures of a MMO noob' tag)

There are no other Aion players in my friends and family (I am one of those mythical new players who came into the game entirely of their own account), and most forums are filled with beings of awesome power talking sagely in arcane code (CC? AOE? QQ? What?). So I'm hugely grateful to the Abyss podcast for being so newbie-friendly - thanks to our hosts, I finally know what "dots" and "roots" are! (I still have no idea on QQ though...)

Anyway, hello to you all!

CC = Crowd Control. Basically a method of keeping unwanted enemies at bay. Restrain and Fear are a couple as an example (being a Spiritmaster), but you probably have ea couple.
AoE= Area of Effect. Essentially attacks or skills that don't target a specific enemy, but a specific area around an enemy, or around yourself. Misplaced AoE usually leads to massive amounts of rushed CCs. ;]
QQ = Crying. When people are perceived as moaning, whining etc, they are said to be QQing.

Good to have another Brit on board. Pity we're not on the same server, though. Try and find yourself a good guild about now, if you haven't. Otherwise, the game will get old pretty quick (at least from my experience)

Hi Daemion! Always good to see another Brit. :) What server are you playing on? I'm planning on rolling an Asmo at some point, which will have to be on a different server.

I found the list of MMO-speak acronyms via one of the podcasts a few weeks back. Was very userful! Though I'm still wondering about the origin of the term 'QQ'.

I just joined a guild today (XIII, who seem like a fun bunch so far), so I now have people to chat to as I whop innocent little monsters. Made it to Elten today, and was promptly stricken by guilt by the little meowing noises the aye-aye monsters make. They sound just like my cats... how can I bring myself to massacre them? (I had a similar problem with the kobolds once I got the Krall language potion, and found out that their battle cry is "Om nom nom!". I felt like such a cad.)

QQ takes a little imagination to see...It's supposed to be a pair of eyes and the slashes in the Q's are tears. At least that's what was told to me and it makes sense.

I'm on Perento. Be careful though; ours was communally selected as the high-end PvP server. Once you step into Eltnen, Heiron and the Abyss, you'd best be on guard; neither race takes prisoners here. ;]

And yes, the Manduri gatherers/looters DO sound like cats. xD
